Seaside Sofa

In 2003, Chia designed another equally arresting creation inspired once again by the sea. This time, it took the form of a mosaic-clad bench, whose seat and back are both in the shape of mosaic-clad fish, decorated with faces enclosed in cameo-style medallions. “To us humans, inclined to believe in illusory waves and rocks, ready to immerse ourselves in symbols and in ourselves,” notes Chia, “a new and improbable piece of furniture is given, a Seaside Sofa, filled with faces.”
