Karole P. B. Vail
Director, Peggy Guggenheim Collection

Since 2017, Karole P. B. Vail has led the Peggy Guggenheim Collection in Venice as Director and Guggenheim Foundation Director for Italy.
Under her guidance, the museum has continued to evolve as a vibrant international hub for twentieth-century art, deepening its focus on the artists Peggy Guggenheim collected and championed while highlighting the continued relevance of modern artistic practice.

She has further developed the museum as a dynamic center for research, exhibitions, and public engagement, expanding its programs and reinforcing a strong commitment to sustainability and long-term stewardship, including the inauguration of a new Conservation Lab.
Her vision is clear: to honor Peggy Guggenheim’s pioneering legacy while ensuring the museum remains rigorous, forward-looking, and actively engaged in today’s cultural
conversations.
