Fondazione Bisazza Takes Part in the Exhibition Dedicated to Alessandro Mendini in Verbania

16 May 2026 27 September 2026

From May 16 to September 27, 2026, Villa Giulia in Verbania hosts the exhibition Alessandro Mendini. Cose. Stanze come mondi, curated by Loredana Parmesani, an important retrospective dedicated to one of the most brilliant interpreters of twentieth-century design and architecture.

Organized by the Municipality of Verbania in collaboration with the Alessandro Mendini Archive (Elisa and Fulvia Mendini), the exhibition presents 130 iconic works retracing the career of the Milanese designer, from the beginnings of Radical Design in the 1970s to his postmodern experimentations.

Fondazione Bisazza participates in the exhibition through the loan of the two artworks Giacca (Jacket) and Testa Pensante (Head), belonging to the Mobili per Uomo Collection. Enriched with 24K yellow gold mosaic tiles that are hand-cut and hand-laid, the nine oversized sculptures stand on metal furniture bases. The collection expresses both the high versatility and artistic value of the mosaic, as well as the creative flair of the Italian Maestro.

Alessandro Mendini

Alessandro Mendini (Milan, 1931–2019), architect, designer, artist, and critic, was one of the leading theorists and promoters of the renewal of Italian design. Throughout his career, he directed influential magazines such as Casabella, Modo, and Domus, helping redefine the role of contemporary design through a vision capable of combining experimentation, decoration, architecture, and theoretical reflection.

He collaborated with major international companies including Alessi, Bisazza, Hermès, Philips, Kartell, Swatch, Venini, and Cartier, developing a unique design language suspended between artistic dimension and function. His works, characterized by strong symbolic and narrative value, transformed everyday objects into poetic and cultural instruments.

Over the course of his career, he received three Compasso d’Oro awards and numerous international recognitions, including the title of Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres in France and the European Prize for Architecture 2014.
