Born in 1958 in Saarbrücken, Fischer is a key figure in Contemporary German photography. 

His work has been the subject of many international exhibitions, including retrospectives at the Musée d’Art Moderne in Paris, Saarlandmuseum in Saarbrücken, Pinakothek der Moderne in Munich.
Whether photographing buildings or human faces Roland Fischer isolates details, stripping away all other visual information to focus the viewer's attention on the individuality of his subject.
